What is IFS-Informed EMDR
IFS-Informed EMDR is a trauma-informed approach that integrates Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) with principles from Internal Family Systems (IFS). This combined model recognizes that our inner world is made up of different “parts,” each with its own role, experiences, and intentions.
In IFS-Informed EMDR, we move at the pace of your nervous system, first building safety and trust with protective parts before approaching painful memories. Rather than pushing past resistance, we listen to it with curiosity and respect. EMDR is then used to gently reprocess traumatic experiences while maintaining connection to your internal system, allowing wounded parts to release burdens they have been carrying.
This approach can be especially helpful for individuals who feel overwhelmed by traditional trauma work, experience strong emotional or somatic responses, or notice internal conflict around healing. By blending EMDR’s structured reprocessing with IFS’s compassionate, parts-based framework, IFS-Informed EMDR supports deeper healing that feels grounded, collaborative, and empowering.

What is an IFS-Informed EMDR Intensive
An IFS-Informed EMDR Intensive is a focused, extended therapy experience designed to support deeper trauma healing in a shorter period of time. Rather than meeting for traditional weekly sessions, intensives offer longer blocks of time over one or multiple days, allowing space to gently and thoroughly engage the healing process without feeling rushed.
This approach integrates Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) with Internal Family Systems (IFS). We begin by prioritizing safety and stabilization, getting to know protective parts, and ensuring your nervous system feels supported. From this grounded foundation, EMDR is used to help reprocess traumatic or distressing experiences while staying connected to your internal system and your sense of Self.
IFS-Informed EMDR Intensives can be especially helpful for individuals navigating complex trauma, long-standing patterns, or specific memories that feel “stuck.” The extended format allows for deeper focus, more integration time, and the ability to move at a pace that honors both your parts and your body.
Intensives are collaborative, carefully paced, and tailored to your unique needs. Many clients appreciate the continuity and depth an intensive provides, often experiencing meaningful shifts that might otherwise take months of weekly therapy to access. At Mosaic, we offer 1-Day and 2-Day IFS-Informed EMDR Intensives.

Is an IFS-Informed EMDR Intensive Right for You
An IFS-Informed EMDR Intensive may be a good fit if you are looking for focused, intentional healing and feel ready to engage in deeper trauma work with additional time and support. Intensives are designed for individuals who want to move beyond the limits of weekly sessions and create space for meaningful processing and integration.
You might consider an IFS-Informed EMDR Intensive if you:
- Feel stuck around specific memories, themes, or patterns despite ongoing therapy.
- Have a history of complex or developmental trauma and want a more contained, supportive approach.
- Experience strong emotional, somatic, or nervous system responses and benefit from a slower, more attuned pace.
- Are motivated for deeper work but want to build trust with protective parts before processing trauma.
- Prefer extended sessions that allow time to prepare, process, and integrate without rushing.
An intensive may be especially supportive if traditional EMDR has felt overwhelming or if parts of you are hesitant, conflicted, or fearful about trauma processing. The IFS-informed approach honors these responses as protective and works collaboratively with them, rather than pushing past them.
IFS-Informed EMDR Intensives are not about forcing change or doing “more” therapy faster. They are about creating enough safety, time, and support for your system to engage in healing in a way that feels respectful and sustainable.
